Frequently Asked Questions

Q: If we cancel games due to weather or field conditions, will there be makeup games?

A: No.  We schedule 9 or 10 games for each session and if we have to cancel 1 or 2 games we will not schedule makeup games.  In the past we have done this and it has caused many problems with people who have other activities scheduled.  In the fall, the weather gets colder the later we play.  Our intent is to get at least 7 games in each session.  If we play less than 7 games we may readjust the schedule, but this is rare.

Q: Your program says you take kids as young as 4, my child is 4 but you say he cannot play because he is not old enough, how can this be?

A: AYSO 1225 soccer "season" runs from August 1 through July 31 each year.  To be old enough to play they would have to be 4 on August 1 at the beginning of our current year.

Q: How do I know what age division my child will be in?
A: Please visit the AYSO Player Age Guidelines on the national web page.

* If enough players register - u14 and u16 divisions will be established. If we do not have enough players to establish u14 & u16 divisions - those players will be combined with the u19 division.

Q: Is your league a competitive league?
A:
Yes and No.

Yes - because one of the main philosophies of AYSO is "balanced teams". There is more competition when the teams are balanced. Before each session, the Regional Administrator and other Coaches and Board members hold a meeting and build the teams. Each returning player has a "ranking" based on their individual skill level. We take the 'hot shot' returning players and place one on each team, then take our #2 players and put one on each team, etc. We do the very best to build teams of equal skill level, age and size. This makes the games more competitive and more fun for the players, families and coaches. This has proved year after year to be a successful process.

No - because we do not build or stack teams in AYSO. We do not teach/coach  "Win-at-all-costs". We teach soccer fundamentals, sportsmanship and teamwork. This is not a "club" soccer league. There are no cuts or tryouts. The only pre-requisite for joining AYSO is enthusiasm. Players cannot request a certain coach, and coaches cannot request a certain player. Every session, our volunteer coaches are handed a brand new roster of kids they may or may not know.

Q: If I volunteer to be a coach, do I get a discount on registration fees?
A:
No. AYSO is an a non-profit all volunteer organization. Our registration fees are based on the very minimum it takes to run a soccer league. This is how we keep our fees down lower than any other soccer program in Southern Colorado. Every year, we take all of our regional expenses, divide them up by how many kids we have on average each session and determine the next years cost for registration
